Children's Voices in Haiti's Post Disaster

Plan International facilitated the voices of 1000 children in the PDNA process. Child friendly focus group discussions were held throughout nine of the country’s departments (West, North East, South East, Artibonite, Nippes, South, North West, Grand Anse and Central Plateau). Issues of gender, disability, vulnerability, access to services, DRR, and participation in decision making and accountability mechanisms for the PDNA were raised by the children and youth who took part.

What is the PDNA?

Following the January 12th earthquake which left over 230,000 people dead and more than 1million homeless, the government of Haiti called on global partners -- including the World Bank, IADB, European Union, UN Agencies and CSOs -- to contribute to assessing the damages and losses as well as the crisis-related human development needs among the affected population.

The Post Disasters Needs Assessment Recovery Framework (outlining early to long-term recovery needs, priorities and resource requirements) is scheduled to complete in time for the March 31st high level UN meeting on Haiti.
